The Art of Jewelry Organization
Expert Tips for Storage and Care
Here at Type A, we love a glam closet and vanity. The impact of an organized vanity and primping station on your day-to-day routine cannot be overstated.
Imagine this: starting your day by easily finding the perfect piece of jewelry to go with your outfit, without having to untangle necklaces, or search through cluttered drawers. There are few things that frustrate me more on this earth than a tangled delicate necklace, but I digress.
Spending the time to organize and take care of your jewelry is more than just keeping it safe-- it’s about creating a sense of order and bringing just a smidge of peace and beauty into your daily life. Whether you have a small collection or a treasure trove, we have developed a tried-and-true method for organizing your jewelry and accessories.
Step 1: Determine Your Goals
Do you find that you forget you have certain pieces of jewelry? Do you need your pieces more accessible?
Are your jewelry and accessories in multiple locations? Do you have too much jewelry that no longer suits your style?
Answering some of these questions will help you determine your next right step.
Step 2: Make a Big (Organized) Mess
Pull out all of your necklaces, earrings, headbands, sunglasses, rings and any other accessories you may have. These may already be sorted in your current storage solution!
Look at each piece and determine whether they are still in your style and categorize them by type if they aren’t already.
Step 3: Select Products
The fun part! We love a beautiful organizer that puts our jewelry on display while making it accessible. We have many favorites but always choose what is going to be functional for the space first and then go for style.
Now that you have sorted and gathered your accessories, you will have a better idea of how much storage you will need, and what type.
Tabletop Jewelry Box or Stacking Organizers:
Invest in a jewelry box or organizer with compartments for different types of jewelry. We gravitate toward acrylic for the ability to quickly scan for your pieces of choice. We also are obsessed with these velvet lined Stackers! We love vertical storage and the versatility of stackable compartments as your collection changes over time.
Wall-Mounted or Hanging Organizers:
If space allows, consider hanging organizers for necklaces and bracelets to keep them tangle-free and easily accessible. We love these for both delicate short necklaces and extra long pieces.
Tip: wait until you organize your jewelry and see things like necklace and bracelet lengths on the wall before mounting.
Drawer and Cabinet Organization
If you are using drawers or cabinets, we love to utilize the same stackers organizers as we do on counter tops. Sometimes you can even fit two stacked in a drawer!
Specialty Accessory Organization
Headbands? Fashion hats? Small clutches and Handbags? There are so many incredible, and may I say beautiful, storage solutions that are available to complete your collection. Here are a few of our favorites:
Step 4: Make it Yours!
This is where you can get creative! We typically will sort by type first, then by style and/or metal color next. There’s no one right way to do it but that is typically where we start. As everything begins to take shape, we start making decisions on placement of jewelry boxes, specialty accessory holders, and wall mounted pieces to determine if there’s any additional organizing solutions that our collection is needing.

Step 5: Routine Care of Your Jewelry
Regular Cleaning Routine + Maintenance:
Establish a regular cleaning routine to keep your jewelry sparkling. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe away dirt and oils.
Use Appropriate Cleaning Products: Use jewelry cleaners that are safe for the specific materials of your jewelry. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage or discolor metals and gemstones.
Store in a Clean Environment: Keep your jewelry storage area clean and free from dust and moisture. Consider using silica gel packets to absorb excess moisture.
Check for Loose Stones or Damages: Regularly inspect your jewelry for loose stones or damage and address any issues before wearing them to prevent further damage.
Properly Storing Jewelry During Travel: Choose good quality storage for your jewelry when traveling to avoid damage that can happen while on the go.
Go put some sparkle in your life!
Incorporating these best practices for jewelry storage, organization, and care into your routine can not only preserve your jewelry but also enhance your overall space.
No more frantic searches for misplaced earrings or last-minute untangling of necklaces. With a designated place for each piece, you can quickly find what you need all while enjoying and seeing your beautiful collection on display! So, take the time to organize your sparkle and bring a little happy into your space! 😊
